The Specified Skilled Worker (i) Examination for the Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Industry is a test designed to evaluate the skill level of foreign nationals who wish to work in Japan under the Specified Skilled Worker (i) residence status in the shipbuilding and marine engineering field.
ClassNK is the designated examination body for the Specified Skilled Worker (i) Examination (Welding, Painting, Ironwork, Machining, Finishing, Electrical Equipment Assembly) and the Specified Skilled Worker (ii) Examination in the shipbuilding and marine engineering field.

Implementation of the Specified Skilled Worker Examination in the Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Field
 
Applications for the Specified Skilled Worker Examination up to May 30, 2026, have been closed.
We are currently accepting applications for examinations in June and July 2026.


The Specified Skilled Worker Examination in the shipbuilding and marine engineering field is conducted on an ongoing basis by dispatching our examiners to the location requested by the applicant based on the submitted application.

In order for us to conduct the examination, the applicant is required to secure the examination venue, prepare machinery and equipment, testing materials, and implement other measures required by our association. Therefore, if you are applying to hold the examination at a location for the first time, we will provide explanations regarding the necessary facilities and equipment. Please contact us prior to submitting your application.

In some cases, we may prepare the examination venue and equipment and conduct the examination on designated dates. In such cases as well, please refer to the
ClassNK website for announcements.
