| 1. About the "Specified Skilled Worker" Residence Status

This residence status was introduced in April 2019 to address the serious labor shortage by accepting foreign nationals who have a certain level of expertise and skills and can immediately contribute to the workforce.

(1) Requirements for Foreign Nationals to Become Specified Skilled Worker (i)

In the fishery (aquaculture) sector, eligible individuals are those who have passed the following examinations or have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii) in the same field.
・Skill Level: Fishery Skill Evaluation Test (Fishery or Aquaculture)
・Japanese Language Proficiency: Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic) or Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 or higher

(2) Requirements for Foreign Nationals to Become Specified Skilled Worker (ii)

In the fishery (aquaculture) sector, eligible individuals are those who have passed the following examinations. To take the Specified Skilled Worker (ii) Fishery Skill Evaluation Test, it is necessary to have
"At least two years of practical experience in fishery or aquaculture management in Japan."
Please refer to the Fisheries Agency website for details on the procedure to verify work experience.
Please note that you will not be allowed to take the exam if your work experience cannot be verified.

・Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N3 or higher

※ Since the procedure for verifying the certificate of work experience takes time, those who wish to take the Grade 2 exam should request the certificate from their accepting organization as early as possible.
Also, please note that the period of Technical Intern Training is not counted as part of the required work experience.
